Malcolm Ian Liddell was born in Yass NSW.
He is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music - Griffith University, and holds a Master’s Degree in Music Performance and Pedagogy, majoring in Trumpet.
Malcolm is a highly skilled and experienced musician, conductor, manager, brass and percussion teacher with a career spanning a diverse range of music genres and settings in Australia and overseas.
He has extensive experience in conducting and managing primary and secondary level concert bands, jazz ensembles, brass ensembles and percussion ensembles as well as tertiary and professional level brass ensembles.
Malcolm was formerly a visiting tutor at Queensland Conservatorium of Music (QCM) and was a member of the QCM Faculty Brass Quintet.
He is a member of the International Trumpet Guild and is a founding member of the Australasian Trumpet Academy.
As a professional musician with deep experience in public concerts, live broadcasts, theatre seasons and recording sessions across Classical, Contemporary, Jazz and Pop music genres, Malcolm has a wealth of industry knowledge to bring to any organisation.
He has performed extensively with organisations including the Queensland Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras, Sinfonia of St Andrew’s, Queensland Baroque Orchestra and the Queensland Pops Orchestra et al.
Since January 2024 he has joined the staff of New England Conservatorium as a brass and percussion teacher and is the Musical Director of the newly formed New England Brass Collective and New England Trumpet Consort.
In 2025 he has been appointed to a new role as NECOM’s Coordinator Community Engagement.
